Before you get swept into spreadsheets and cake tastings, take a breath and enjoy this chapter together. Here are 10 things I always recommend newly engaged couples do—especially if you're planning a wedding here in Idaho!

The very first thing you should do? Pause. Celebrate. And spend intentional time together without talking about the wedding. Set aside an evening (maybe with your favorite takeout or some wine) and talk about what kind of wedding you both want. Do you picture mountains and pine trees? A ranch wedding in Salmon? Popular Idaho venues and vendors (especially photographers 👋) tend to book 12–18 months out, so having a few flexible dates will help. Once you know the season or month you’re aiming for, you can start confirming availability with your dream team.

8. Choose Your Wedding Party

You don’t have to know every detail of your wedding yet, but choosing your wedding party early helps with other planning pieces. Will you go big with a group of friends or keep it small and simple? And if you’re doing bridesmaid or groomsman proposals, now’s the time to start brainstorming.

9. Treat Yourself to Bride (or Groom) Fun

Whether it’s a subscription box, a wedding magazine, or a few little gifts to mark this season, find ways to enjoy the ride. You’re only engaged once, and it's okay to have a little fun with it!

10. Book Your Engagement Session

Booking your engagement photos early is a great way to connect with your photographer (that’s me!) and get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day.
