Aspen Smith is making waves as a state finalist in the National American Miss (NAM) pageant, and I recently had the privilege of photographing her journey. What Is National American Miss?

National American Miss is more than a pageant—it’s a platform for building real-world skills. Open to girls ages 4–24, NAM emphasizes communication, community involvement, and confidence over traditional beauty standards. There’s no swimsuit competition, and makeup is not allowed for girls under 12, keeping the focus on personality and potential. Each contestant participates in a one-on-one interview, delivers a personal introduction on stage, and models formal wear, all designed to foster self-assurance and public speaking skills.

Aspen has embraced this opportunity wholeheartedly. As a state finalist, she’s preparing to showcase her talents and values while representing her community with pride. Her journey reflects NAM’s mission to inspire young women to lead with confidence and purpose.
