Senior Photos with Abby – A Softball-Loving 2026 Senior in Salmon, Idaho
As a Salmon Idaho senior photographer, I love getting to work with local high school students and capture this unforgettable chapter in their lives. Senior portraits are more than just photos, they’re a celebration of who you are right now. For Abby, a 2026 senior at Salmon Junior-Senior High School, that meant combining her love for the mountains with her passion for softball. If you’re looking for Idaho senior portraits that reflect both personality and passion, Abby’s session is the perfect inspiration.
Abby is a senior at Salmon Junior-Senior High School, class of 2026.
And she’s not just your average student, she’s an athlete through and through. Over the last few years, she’s fallen head over heels for softball, and it’s clear the sport has become a huge part of her life. Abby is a pitcher for the Salmon Savages and also plays for the Montana Rampage softball team. She’s dedicated, competitive, and yes — she’s pretty darn good.
When we talked about who Abby is, she described herself as “stubborn and quiet.” I’ve had the privilege of photographing her before, first with her family, and once with a friend when they were younger. But senior photos are different. They’re a milestone, and for many teens, the thought of standing in front of a camera for hours can feel… well, awkward.
And Abby was no exception. Like most teens, she came into the session feeling a little nervous and not exactly excited about posing for photos. But here’s what I love about her story, she showed up anyway. She pushed through that discomfort, with a little encouragement from her mom, Crystal, and by the end, she was absolutely rocking her senior session.
If you’ve got a teen in your life, you know how quickly these high school years fly by. Senior year is a whirlwind of “lasts” - last sports seasons, last school dances, last time walking the same halls. Senior photos give you a chance to hit the pause button. They capture more than just a face; they freeze this incredible, fleeting season of life.
I always encourage families not to skip this step. Senior portraits aren’t just for graduation announcements or the yearbook. They’re for the parents who want to remember their teen’s smile before they head out into the world. They’re for the teen, so that years later, they can look back and remember who they were at this turning point.
For Abby’s senior photos, we wanted to capture both her personality and her passions. We started with some relaxed shots in the mountains near Salmon, Idaho, the late summer light was golden, the air was warm, and the wildflowers framed her beautifully. These images showed a softer, quieter side of her.
Then, we moved to the softball diamonds. Abby slipped into her Salmon Savages jersey, grabbed her glove and bat, and instantly looked right at home. You could see the confidence come alive in her eyes. There’s just something about photographing a senior in their element, it’s like the camera disappears and you’re just witnessing them doing what they love most.
A while back, I wrote an article for Idaho Magazine called “More Than Softball”, which dove into the heart of our local softball community here in Salmon. That piece explored how softball isn’t just a sport — it’s friendships, life lessons, and a way for these teens to challenge themselves. Watching Abby pitch and hearing her talk about the game reminded me so much of the stories from that article. She’s part of that next generation carrying the spirit of the game forward.
As a photographer, one of my biggest priorities is helping teens feel comfortable during their senior session. This isn’t just about snapping pretty photos, it’s about creating an environment where they can relax, be themselves, and maybe even have some fun along the way. For some, it’s the first time they’ve ever been the sole focus of a camera, and that can feel vulnerable.
That’s why I give my seniors space to warm up, offer simple prompts instead of stiff poses, and always look for ways to incorporate the things they love, whether that’s a sport, a truck, a guitar, or even just their favorite hoodie.
Abby’s session was the perfect example of why senior photos matter. She came in nervous, but left with images that tell the story of who she is right now, an athlete, a student, a daughter, and a young woman on the brink of her next chapter.
If you’ve got a senior this year, don’t wait. Let’s create something beautiful that will mean even more with each passing year.
