It had been far too long since I had the Jackson family in front of my camera. Years, actually, much too long for a family as special as theirs. While I’ve captured little moments here and there, small sessions, kids’ sports, life happening in between, it had been ages since we gathered everyone together for a full family photo session. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait.
Revan and Crystal Jackson are a name many people know here in Salmon. They own and operate Jackson Restoration, the business you’ve likely seen proudly displayed on Main Street. Their days are busy, balancing work, sports, motorcycles, and the non-stop rhythm of family life. Which makes these kinds of sessions even more meaningful. When everyone slows down just long enough to gather in front of the camera, it isn’t just about pictures, it’s about connection.
Family sessions aren’t just about smiling at the lens. They’re about documenting the stage of life you’re in right now. They’re about showing up with all the chaos and love that makes your family unique. In ten years, when kids have grown taller, moved away, or started their own adventures, these images become treasures. They remind us not only what we looked like, but who we were together.
Of course, one of my favorite Jackson family memories goes all the way back to their last full session at the Sacajawea Center, yes, many, many years ago. As we were wrapping up, a small water snake slithered across the walking path. Now, anyone who knows Crystal knows she is absolutely terrified of snakes. And when I say terrified, I mean she bolted. Fast. I can still hear the laughter that followed her sprint that day. To this day, I think of that moment at nearly every session, though fun fact, I have never seen another snake during a family shoot since!
This time around, the focus wasn’t snakes or nerves, it was family. We laughed, we captured sweet moments, and we made sure mom got her wish: updated family photos with everyone together. Because at the end of the day, that’s what family sessions are all about.
The Jackson family may always be on the go, but I am so glad we pressed pause for just a little while. These are the moments worth slowing down for.
