Essential Items to Bring to Your Senior Photo Session

What to Bring to Your Senior Photo Session from a Professional Photographer

Senior year is a momentous time in a student's life, filled with memorable milestones and accomplishments. One of the most cherished experiences is the senior photo session, where you have the opportunity to capture your unique personality and style as you transition into adulthood. As a photographer, I've had the privilege of working with numerous seniors to create stunning portraits that reflect their individuality.

Senior photos is the perfect time to take photos that reflect who you are and what you want - it is about you, right? I put together a short list of how to prepare and what to bring to your senior photo session.

Wardrobe Selection:

Selecting the right outfits is crucial for creating a diverse and visually appealing photo gallery. Bring a variety of outfits that represent different aspects of your personality. Aim for a mix of casual, semi-formal, and formal attire, ranging from your favorite everyday wear to outfits that showcase your style and interests. Remember to consider the location and season of the shoot when choosing your clothing.

Think outside the box and take advantage of wearing what you want. Want to wear a prom dress? Do it. Want to wear your cowboy hat? Bring it. Being you and being comfortable has a lot to with your wardrobe. If you feel comfortable you are going to be more confident - that's what we want. Nothing is wrong. Wear pants, graphic tee, high heels or your letterman jacket.

Accessories:

Accessories can add depth and character to your photos. Consider bringing items such as hats, jewelry, sunglasses, or any other accessories that define your style. These small touches can make a big difference in the overall look of your photos.

Props:

Incorporating props into your senior photo session can make your portraits truly unique. Think about items that hold personal significance, such as musical instruments, sports equipment, books, or even your favorite hobby-related items. Props can help tell a story and make your photos more memorable.

Hair and Makeup:

Professional hair and makeup can enhance your overall look and boost your confidence during the shoot. If you're not hiring a makeup artist, consider doing your hair and makeup in a way that complements your chosen outfits while keeping your personal style in mind.

You can add hair and makeup through me for your senior session and get pampered on that day! If anything treat yourself and get your makeup done. You will feel glamours. Again, it's about you.

Footwear:

Don't forget about your footwear! Bring a variety of shoes that coordinate with your outfits, whether it's sneakers, heels, boots, or any other styles that match the look you're aiming for. Shoes can make or break your outfit. Ditch the old, holey sneakers and include shoes that MAKE your outfit.

Also bring or wear walking shoes with you depending on where your session is at. You don't want to walk in heels, wear sneakers and change at the location.

Backup Outfits:

Accidents can happen, and having backup outfits on hand is a smart move. Stains, tears, or even a sudden change in weather can impact your session, so having alternatives ensures that the shoot can continue seamlessly.

Personal Items:

Sometimes, the most meaningful photos are those that capture you in your natural element. Consider bringing a cherished book, a favorite mug, or any personal items that hold sentimental value to you. These items can add an extra layer of authenticity to your photos.

Positive Attitude:

Last but not least, bring your positive attitude and enthusiasm. A relaxed and confident demeanor will shine through in your photos, making for a more enjoyable and successful session.

Your senior photo session is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate your accomplishments, style, and individuality as you step into a new chapter of your life. By following these tips and considering the items mentioned from a photographer's perspective, you'll be well-prepared to create stunning and memorable senior portraits that you'll treasure for years to come. Remember, the most important thing is to be yourself and enjoy the experience to the fullest.
