Colton and Stephanie’s Colorful Sweet Water Hollow Wedding

Some wedding days feel quiet and intimate.

And then there are wedding days like Colton and Stephanie’s, colorful, loud, full of people they love and ending exactly where a good wedding should: with drinks pouring, music playing and a completely packed dance floor.

Colton and Stephanie were married at Sweet Water Hollow in Salmon, Idaho, surrounded by so many friends and family members who were genuinely excited to celebrate them. And as a Salmon Idaho Wedding Photographer, that is one of my favorite things to witness. You can always tell when a couple has built a life full of really good people, and these two absolutely have.

One of the first things I noticed was the FLOWERS.

Colton’s mom, Sadie, created the most gorgeous florals for their wedding and when I say created them, I mean she actually grew so many of the flowers herself. The colors were bright, vibrant and absolutely beautiful against Sweet Water Hollow. They added so much life and personality to the entire day, and knowing how much love and work went into growing and arranging them made them even more special.

Stephanie looked absolutely gorgeous. Her dress, her hair, her makeup — everything came together perfectly. She just looked like a BRIDE. Beautiful without looking like she was trying too hard, and completely herself.

And Colton cleaned up pretty damn well too.

He looked so handsome in his suit, surrounded by his groomsmen and some of the people who have been beside him for years. That might have been one of my favorite parts of this wedding, watching lifelong friends celebrate each other.

There is something different about friendships that have lasted through different seasons of life. These are the people who knew you before careers, marriages, houses and all the grown-up stuff. They have the stories you probably hope never make it into a wedding toast. They have seen different versions of you, grown alongside you and somehow still end up standing beside you on one of the biggest days of your life.

Watching Colton with his friends throughout the evening was just FUN. You could tell these weren’t just wedding-day friendships. These were his people. And once the sun started dropping, the entire wedding seemed to shift into party mode.

The drinks were pouring. The music was playing. And the dance floor was FULL.

They danced, and danced, and then danced some more. Colton and his friends were having the absolute time of their lives, guests were laughing everywhere you looked, and it became one of those receptions where you could feel how much everyone wanted to be there.

They also served some seriously good food, which I will always appreciate because a wedding day requires fuel, for the guests AND those of us running around with cameras all day.

And speaking of running around all day . . .It was HOT. One thing I genuinely appreciated about Stephanie was that when she hit her limit, she said so. I LOVE that.

Weddings are amazing, but they are also a lot. Months of planning lead into a day where everyone needs something from you. Photos, hugs, conversations, timelines, decisions, dancing, smiling, all while wearing a wedding dress in the Idaho summer heat.

Sometimes being the bride means knowing when you are DONE for a minute.

As an Idaho Wedding Photographer, I never want couples to feel like their wedding day is one giant photoshoot. The photos matter, obviously, but actually experiencing your wedding matters more. If you need water, shade, food, five minutes alone or you are simply finished taking pictures, tell me.

The wedding will keep moving.

And the memories will still be there.

Colton and Stephanie’s Sweet Water Hollow wedding was colorful, joyful, a little sweaty, filled with incredible food, beautiful flowers, lifelong friendships and one seriously good party.

Exactly the way a wedding should be.
