One of my favorite parts of being an Idaho engagement photographer is that no two sessions are ever the same. Every couple brings their own love story, and every location across this gorgeous state offers something unique. Living in a rural area like Salmon, Idaho, I often get to pack up my gear, hit the road, and discover hidden places I might not otherwise experience. Amber and Gavin’s engagement session at Meadow Lake in Gilmore, Idaho was exactly that, an adventure filled with breathtaking views, laughter, and so much love.

Meadow Lake had been on my bucket list for years, and this session gave me the perfect excuse to finally visit. The drive itself is part of the experience, narrow, steep, and a little nerve-wracking at times, but every turn rewards you with mountain views that will leave you speechless. And when you finally arrive? You’re greeted with crystal-clear alpine water, towering peaks, and a sense of peaceful seclusion that feels like it was made for romantic, adventurous photos.

Amber and Gavin are the perfect couple for a setting like this. They love the outdoors, camping, and spending time together surrounded by nature. Before I arrived, they had already set up their tent near the lake so we could capture photos that truly represent what they enjoy most as a couple. That’s one of my favorite parts of photography, taking the “traditional smiling photos” but also weaving in pieces of who my couples are. These images tell their story, not just a posed moment.

We explored around the lake, and they even dipped their toes into the icy water (brave souls - it was COLD!). Their tent became the coziest backdrop for some fun and intimate shots, perfectly framed by the mountains and trees around us. And of course, their sweet pup joined in on the fun. I always love when couples bring their dogs, it adds another layer of personality to the photos and makes the session feel even more genuine.

Sessions like this remind me why I love being a Salmon Idaho photographer, I get to explore incredible rural locations, meet adventurous couples, and create photos that feel as natural and beautiful as the scenery around us. Meadow Lake was everything I hoped it would be and more, and I can’t wait to go back.
