Tyler and Jenna . . . . got married

“Let’s get married.”

And Tyler and Jenna did exactly that, just not in Idaho.

The couple had already gotten married earlier in the year, but when it came time to announce it, they wanted to do something a little different. Something that felt like them.

Tyler and Jenna are from Pennsylvania, and every year they choose a new western state to explore. They travel, hike, sightsee and do their best to experience as much of each place as they can. This year, Idaho made the list, along with a few surrounding states, and they decided our mountains would make the perfect backdrop for some wedding photos and an even better way to announce that they were officially married.

I loved the idea immediately.

Jenna ordered what she jokingly called a “cheap” wedding dress from Amazon specifically for their photos, and I have to say, it was perfect. Simple, beautiful and exactly right for the mountain setting. Tyler cleaned up pretty dang well himself and together they looked like they had planned this whole thing months in advance.

As an Idaho Wedding Photographer, I love when couples find ways to make their wedding photos feel personal to them. Not every wedding story has to follow the same timeline. Sometimes you get married first, go on an adventure later and decide the mountains of Idaho are exactly where you want to document it.

I met Tyler and Jenna in Challis, an area I travel to often. As a Challis Photographer, I’ve photographed quite a few families and sessions in the area over the years, but I also get these fun, unexpected shoots every once in a while and those are always some of my favorites.

We weren’t totally sure what the weather was going to do that evening. For a while, it looked like rain might be headed our way. Instead, Idaho gave us wind. A lot of wind.

The wind caught Jenna’s dress and hair, the mountains gave us that dramatic western backdrop and the whole session had this adventurous feeling that fit the two of them so well.

They even brought along a sweet little cake to cut together, which made the whole thing feel like its own mini celebration.

Wedding dress? Check.
Mountain views? Check.
Tiny cake in the middle of Idaho? Obviously.

There was something really fun about the simplicity of it all. No wedding-day timeline. No rushing from one event to another. Just two newlyweds exploring somewhere new, dressing back up and creating photographs that would help them share their news with everyone back home.

One of my favorite parts of being a Salmon Idaho Wedding Photographer is getting to travel throughout central Idaho and photograph couples in places that feel wild, beautiful and completely different from home. From Salmon to Challis and all the mountains, rivers and dirt roads in between, there are endless places to create something memorable.

Tyler and Jenna came all the way from Pennsylvania wanting mountain views and a fun way to announce that they had gotten married.

I think Idaho understood the assignment.
